此句中真正的主语是Mr Ford， 因此选用单数动词呼应。应用此原则的词还有but, with等。

points.
Neither… nor连接的主语要遵循就近一致的原则，即谓语was
要和主语I呼应。适用于此原则的词还有either… or/not only… but also/ there
be等句型。
3. No news is good news.
以s结尾的名词不一定是复数。类似的词还有mathematics,
physics, means(手段，方法），works(工厂），politics等。means,
words 也可以用作复数名词。还有些形单意复的名词，谓语动词选用复数呼应。如：police,
people, deer, sheep, fish, cattle 等。（deer,
sheep和fish也可以用作单数名词。)

类似的名词还有class, school, government, number, majority,
population等。
5. Fifty

表示时间，重量，长度，价值，距离等的词组，如果作整体看待，则视为单数。
